The ETAC will consist of complete mock trials presented by teams of law students from across the nation. Sitting judges and attorneys will evaluate students based on their trial advocacy skills, which will be evidenced by their ability to open or close, conduct, direct and cross-examine, handle exhibits and make objections. The competition features a civil case similar to the type of work the host law firm regularly conducts.

Each law school team will consist of four students. Each student will act as an attorney for his or her team, serving the plaintiff and witnesses on one side of the case and the defendant on the other. Each team will compete once on each side of the case, and once during preliminary rounds on April 13 at the Nazario Clemente Federal Courthouse in San Juan’s Hato Rey sector. After the two preliminary rounds, there will be an evening reception to announce the advancing teams.

On April 14, the semifinal and final rounds will be held at the historic José V. Toledo Federal Courthouse in Old San Juan.
